Most of the 1992 equestrian events took place at the Real Club de Polo Barcelona, with the eventing dressage and endurance phases held elsewhere, at the Club Hípico El Montanyà, Montanyà, although it had originally been scheduled for Parc del Remolar in downtown Barcelona. The Real Club de Polo Barcelona was founded in 1897 and has facilities for polo, hockey (field), tennis, squash, and swimming. Club Hípico El Montanyà was a horse club that had been built in 1991 over a defunct golf course.
The program consisted of the standard six events of individual and team events in dressage, eventing, and show jumping. Germany was the dominant nation, winning three of the six events, and seven medals. Only seven nations won medals and only Australia (2) and the Netherlands (1) won gold medals, besides Germany. The Netherlands won three medals with the Australia, New Zealand, and the United States winning two.
