Daniel Ahearn emigrated from Ireland and the family name was originally Ahearne, the âeâ being dropped when he passed through Ellis Island. In 1911, he set a world record in the triple jump with 15.52 (50-11), which was the first IAAF-ratified world record. He was the brother of [Tim Ahearne], the 1908 Olympic triple jump champion for GBR/IRL.
