The 1908 Olympic Games contained events in figure skating for both men and women. Pre-dating the first Olympic Winter Games by 16 years, these were the first Winter Olympic events contested at the Modern Olympic Games.
This was the first time that an international figure skating competition saw men, women, and pairs compete at the same event. In addition, a fourth event, "Special Figures" was also held. This event never again appeared on the Olympic program but basically consisted of the school figures as a separate event.
Figure skating would not return to the Olympics until 1920 in Antwerp, as it was not held in 1912 at Stockholm.
