Street of Shadows
Street of Shadows – 1953 | 84 mins | Drama, Crime | B&W
Plot Synopsis
Hollywood actor Cesar Romero was imported to star in this dark atmospheric frame-up thriller. Director Richard Vernon maintains the tension throughout and makes this a well-constructed noirish drama typical of those churned out from Merton Park. Victor Maddern produces a standout performance as the scorned, deformed Limpy who makes for a sympathetic villain. Eric Spear and Tommy Reilly provide an excellent harmonica-based score.
Luigi (Cesar Romero), the owner of a Soho pin-table saloon, gets framed for the murder of a socialite ex-girl friend, Angele Abbe (Simone Silva), who was found stabbed in his apartment. He evades the police and unwittingly asks the real murderer, crippled Limpy (Victor Maddern) for help. The love starved Limpy had asked Angela to accompany him to the cinema, but when she stood him up the humiliated and angry assistant responds by murdering her. The police investigate the case step by step, finally clearing Luigi.
