SFX: Quick and Reliable User Access to Electronic Resources

SFX is the original OpenURL link server, providing users with the most appropriate and cost-effective access methods for any given article.

Full-Text and Many Other Delivery Options
SFX enables users to quickly obtain the information they need by linking to full-text articles via a range of access and delivery options. If the full-text is not available electronically, the user can connect to the proper entry in the library catalog directly, check print holdings for photocopy, or can connect directly to a document-delivery or interlibrary loan request and pre-populate any form with the relevant article metadata.

Other SFX service options include links to e-books, citation services, searches for related material in Web-based databases, patent information services and more.

Try it yourself!

Multiple Routes to SFX Services
Users can access SFX services from various types of library resources, all configurable by the library.
These sources include:

  • A&I databases
  • E-journals
  • OPACs
  • E-print archives (OAI)
  • Electronic theses and dissertations
  • Local digital repositories

A-Z List
The A-Z journal list is another means for patrons to quickly search and access journal content and related SFX services. The A-Z List is fully customizable by the library and can be embedded in the library Website or any other place the user may need it.

Citation Linker
Citation Linker enables users to quickly locate specific articles by journal title, date, volume and issue information. Once the article is located, all relevant SFX services can be accessed. The Citation Linker is fully customizable by library and can be embedded in the library website or any other place the user may need it.

Google™ Scholar
Ex Libris has worked closely with Google to enable the display of OpenURL links to SFX, enabling your users to see links to your electronic journal holdings in Google Scholar search results.

These capabilities are available both to SFX customers and other libraries.
