Introduction
Audiobook Cutter is an easy-to-use tool which splits large MP3 audiobook files into smaller ones without re-encoding. The split points are determined automatically based on silence detection. Because of this feature, long audiobook recordings can be cut into manageable albums with just a few clicks. The cutter is applicable for all kind of spoken content.
The main purpose of this MP3 splitter is to make audiobooks, analog recordings of speech or long podcasts more manageable in a user-friendly way: The split files can easily be used on mobile MP3 players because of their small-size and their duration allows smooth navigation through the book. Additionally the application is good accessible for users of screen readers and screen magnifiers.
Audiobook Cutter is free software, licensed under the terms of the
GNU General Public License (GPL) , which, among other things, means that the source code is available to the public.
Features & Future Work
Audiobook Cutter is almost feature complete. However, MP3 tag support is still missing and additional localizations should be added. Additionally we try to increase the splitting quality by replacing the current split engine.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are there any keyboard shortcuts?
Yes, all buttons are accessible via keyboard.
- Add files (Alt + A)
- Remove selected file (Alt + R or Del)
- Split (Alt + S)
- Abort splitting (ESC)
- About Dialog (Alt + I)
- Exit (Alt + F4)
My mobile music player cannot sort alphanumeric file names ('Track 001.mp3') properly. Is it possible to get numeric file names ('001.mp3')?
Yes, you have to clear the text of field 'Track Name'. The track name and the numeric counter form the file name. If the track name is
empty you get numeric file names as a result.
What is the difference between the silence detection options silence, normal and background noise?
The detection options can be used to adjust the silence threshold. If background noise is selected audio sections with low
background noise are considered valid for splitting. By contrast, if silence is selected only sections without any noise are
used. The options are only for fine tuning and should only be changed if splitting does not work on account of
special effects or background music. If cutting at a silence point does not work for you I recommend to switch from normal to background noise.
