ET Modern, my new museum/gallery, is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10.00am to 6.00pm, Thursdays until 8.00pm, 547 West 20th Street, corner of West 20th Street and 11th Avenue, in New York City's Chelsea art district, 212 206-0300. The first exhibit, Multiplicity, displays 70 pieces that reveal the enormous multiplicity of optical experiences generated by three-dimensional sculptures residing in varying light. Edward Tufte gives artist's tours of his exhibit at ET Modern every Saturday, throughout the day from 10.00am to 6.00pm. If you would like a tour, just ask at the reception desk.


               

Edward Tufte lecture, "Amazing Rare Books" At ET Modern, ET will show special rare books from his library
to be auctioned at Christie's on December 2, 2010. He will discuss how those books participated in creating
his own books, especially Beautiful Evidence. These historic, beautiful, rare, important books on show include:
Galileo's Starry Messenger (1610), Hypnerotomachia (1499), Durer on measurement (1532), Cousin on perspective
(1560), Bayer's first accurate star atlas (1603), Playfair on statistical graphics (1785), and two of Picasso's artists books.
Free lecture at ET Modern on Thursday November 18 at 7.00pm, and again on Friday November 19 at 2.00pm.
Free lecture at Christie's (where all 200 books will be on view) on Monday November 29 at 2.00pm
and again on Tuesday November 30 at 2.00pm.

Edward Tufte has written seven books, including Beautiful Evidence, Visual Explanations, Envisioning Information, The Visual Display of Quantitative Information, and Data Analysis for Politics and Policy. He writes, designs, and self-publishes his books on analytical design, which have received more than 40 awards for content and design. He is Professor Emeritus at Yale University, where he taught courses in statistical evidence, information design, and interface design. His current work includes landscape sculpture, printmaking, video and a new book.
